What you can expect to walk away having learned:

Many “professional development workshops” are based on theory, guiding principles and research behind the concepts presented. They tend to be fascinating, griping and even motivating.

What many of them lack though is bridging the gap between “that was fascinating…now how do I apply what I learned to my role as a leader?

The Compression Planning Institute is different. It was designed from the perspective of the participant…not the presenter.

Idea to Success What you can expect to learn

The CP Institute is based on:

  • 80% participation by attendees, 20% presentation and Q&A
  • Learn on real issues…your issues. There are no “canned exercises that guarantee success” in this Institute.  You get real learning on real challenges.
  • Instant feedback from CP coaches…who have all led tough sessions for many years before becoming presenters/coaches.
  • Some of your Institute projects will be super-successful. Some will be so-so. And some may “crash and burn.” Just like in real life. You learn different things from each session…all valuable.
  • The Institute is a safe learning environment so you are comfortable doing CP the day after the Institute.
  • Learn and get grounded in the basics. McNellis is big on fundamentals. You can adapt on your own after you’ve mastered the “101” of leading groups.
  • Theory is covered in print…in your resource materials.  Our time spent together is focused on you learning how to do and directly apply. If you want the theory that backs it up, it’s there for you. We just don’t dwell on it in the Institute.

Participants will leave the CP Institute fully prepared to do the following:

  • Design and lead CP sessions by themselves…starting the day after the Institute
  • Recruit the necessary cross-functional talent to participate in your CP session to “give life to your idea/plan.”
  • Break down the organizational silos by involving the right people in your planning.
  • Fully prepare everything needed to conduct a CP session.

No further research needs to be done apply CP. You walk out being able to DO CP…confidently.

This is not a “lecture-shop.”  It is a WORK-shop.

Come prepared to work and learn on something that is important and keeping you up at night.

We know you are going to be asked to use your CP skills in areas that were not covered in the Institute.  For this very reason you will leave with a “support team.” You are not thrown out to the wolves upon leaving the Institute.  Send your CP Designs in for review by a McNellis expert, call or e-mail and you will receive a detailed response within 24 hours.

Your “support team” consists of the following:

  • The Compression Planning Advantage was designed as a resource for you to explore as the complexity of your sessions gets greater.  There are dozens of templates you can use or adapt.
  • Exploding the Meeting Myth.  All the theory you could ever want (or need) to support your Compression Planning applications.
  • An On-line Library of Tools.  All the templates and resources you use in the Institute are available as free downloads. (*does not include the storyboards/easels which are available from Storyboardtools.com).
  • Learn the Master Planning Model which can be used on 90-95%% of all challenges you’ll be asked to facilitate.
  • 4 Ways to time a CP session from start to finish using a Master Planning Model
  • 6 Ways to establish accountability and keep others true to their word
  • 5 tips on how to neutralize and deal with “traditionally difficult participants
  • 7 suggestions on when to use CP…and 3 “Red Flags” of when NOT to get suckered into leading a group destined to fail
  • Learn how to manage creative sessions as well as analytical ones without letting them become contaminated by “typical meeting-itis”
  • 3 tips for working with “clients/project owners
  • Say goodbye to “Traditional Brainstorming” and learn 6 ways to develop meaningful ideas – ones that are prototype-able, cost-able and action-able.
  • A template of 39 diagnostic design questions McNellis Compression Planners use to design and lead groups through complex issues
  • Regular updates featuring educational material on innovative applications of Compression Planning
  • Gain hints, feedback and insights from your CP coaches who live in the day-to-day trenches of problem-solving
  • And finally…unlimited access to the McNellis Design Alert Service. Have a professional CP expert give you feedback and advice on your CP Design before you get a group convened to tackle your issue.

Some workshops serve as a sales vehicle to get you to buy more books/videos/CDs.  Not this one. Walk away fully prepared with “enough knowledge and confidence” to design and lead your own Compression Planning sessions.
